Aangus
Earn points for recording what’s true on the ground near you.
- 1. Visit clinics, schools, water points and markets close to home.
- 2. Points for every task we accept. The organisation you collect for sets how they are reimbursed.
- 3. Your records answer questions researchers are asking right now.

What the work is
A task names one place and one question. You go, you look, you send what you saw — usually a photograph and a few taps. Somebody checks it, and it becomes a fact Aangus can answer with.
- 1. A task appears for a place your territory covers. It says what to check, what it earns in points, and how long it should take.
- 2. You take it, or you leave it. Nothing is assigned to you without your saying yes, and turning one down costs you nothing.
- 3. You go and look. The app records where you were and your route while a task is in the field, as your phone reports them. The terms you accept when you sign up say what is recorded, when, and who sees it, and you can see your own routes.
- 4. A person reviews it. If something is unclear it comes back with a note rather than being rejected.
- 5. It is accepted and a line is added to your ledger.
What a task earns
Each kind of task has a number of points. A task earns those points multiplied by how hard it is and how far out the place is, so a long walk to somewhere remote earns more than a shop on your street. All three numbers are on the task and on your ledger line, so you can check them.
These points are not set yet. They are the figures the system is being built against, and the founder has not fixed them. Nothing here is an offer. Every line below says so until that changes, and this page reads them from the same place the app does.

How points are reimbursed, and when, is set by the organisation you collect for. Aangus records the points; it does not move money.
Your territory
A territory is the ground you are offered work in. You say where you live and how far you can travel, and by what — on foot, by bike, by motorbike, by bus — and that is what it is drawn from. You are not offered somewhere you cannot reach.
It can change. If it grows and the travel stops making sense, say so and it is shrunk. Work outside it is possible but it is a separate decision, and the ledger line says it was outside.
Code of conduct
- 1. I record facts about places — never personal information about the people who live or work there.
- 2. I ask before photographing any person, and I leave faces out when I can.
- 3. I only submit what I saw myself, at the place, on that day.
- 4. I never go where it isn't safe. I can decline any task for safety.
You tick all four before training starts.
The rules shown before every task
- Ask before photographing anyone. If a person is identifiable in a photograph, ask them first and write down that you asked. A submission that says there are people in it and does not say consent was recorded is refused.
- Check in on a caution task. When the safety layer marks a place cautious, tell the admin when you arrive and when you leave. The task will not be given to you until an admin has approved it.
- Daylight only. Do tasks in daylight unless the task type says otherwise. The submission records the sun's height where you were, so this is a fact about the row and not a promise.
- Facts about places, never people. Record what a place is like. Do not record what any person is like, and do not write down who told you something.
- Where you were is recorded as your phone reports it. The place of each photograph, reading and check-in, and your route while a task is in the field, are recorded as your phone reports them. You, your organisation's admins and Aangus's admins see them; your name is never published beside them. You can see your own routes.
- Never enter somewhere unsafe. If a place looks wrong when you get there, leave and decline the task. Declining never counts against you and it is the most useful thing you can tell us.
- What a task earns, before you accept it. Every task shows its points, and the three things that made them: the points for that type of task, how hard it is, and how far out it is. The points for each type are placeholders until the founder sets them, and every screen says so. How points are reimbursed, and when, is set by the organisation you collect for.
Declining a task for safety never lowers trust. Tasks inside a Risk warning zone are paused, and resume 24 h after it lifts.
What Aangus never asks you for
An ID number of any kind, your address, bank details, your religion, or your ethnicity. There is nowhere in the system to put them, which is checked by a test that fails the build if such a column ever appears.
Your name is never printed beside a figure Aangus publishes. You can ask to be removed at any point: your profile is deleted and what you sent stays, with your name taken off it.
