Child Protection
Most people Aangus serves are children. This page says how we keep them safe, what we will never do, and how to tell us if something is wrong.
How to report a concern
Email safeguarding@aangus.org. Use it to report a concern about a child's safety, to ask what data we hold about you or your child, or to ask us to correct or delete it. We respond within 30 days, and sooner where a child may be at risk.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. Tell us afterwards so we can act on our side.
Who can see a child
No supporter ever receives a child's full identity. An Aangus Friend sees a first name, the last four digits of a Student ID, a grade and a district — never a full Student ID, an address, a phone number, or a photograph they could use to find someone. That limit is enforced where the data is prepared, not where it is displayed, so it cannot be undone by a change to a screen.
A child becomes visible to supporters only after three separate people have agreed: an administrator has read and approved the record, a parent or guardian has been approved and the child has confirmed them, and at least one teacher has been verified. Any one of those can be withdrawn, and the child leaves the board the moment it is.
Adults who meet children
An Aangus Reporter is the only role that meets a child in person, and it has the strictest gate. They are vetted by a person before they see any task at all. A visit happens only where and when a task says, only after the Scholar and — where there is one — their parent have both agreed, and never alone with a child where that can be avoided. A Reporter is told what the errand is, never which child it belongs to beyond what the errand needs.
Teachers confirm attendance and nothing more. A teacher who has not been verified carries no weight in a child's record.
What we never do
- We never let a supporter contact a child. Any attempt ends the match and the account.
- We never show a child's full Student ID to anyone outside Aangus.
- We never publish a number about an individual child. Children see their own progress as pictures, not scores.
- We never sell or share personal data with advertisers.
- We never send a child a one-time code by SMS.
Decisions about a child
Every decision an administrator makes about a child's record — an approval, a rejection, a correction, a hold on an account — is recorded with who made it and why. A reason is required; the system will not accept one without it. A child or their parent may ask what was decided and why.
If an account is paused, the person is told plainly, in their own language, what is needed and how to supply it, and they can always reach us. A pause is a hold, never a punishment: nothing a child has already done is lost or set back by it.
Who is responsible
Aangus Foundation is responsible for the programme and for the children in it. Concerns go to safeguarding@aangus.org and are handled by a person, not an automated system.
